Frequently Asked Questions
How do I apply for the Masters in Ethics?
The application for the Masters is done in 2 steps:
- Complete the pre-application on ARIA
- Send the list of supporting documents by post directly to CEERE.
Candidates register online at the following website address: https://aria.u-strasbg.fr/
- Register and obtain your login (username and password)
- Following this, choose 'CEERE (European Centre for Teaching and Research Ethics)'
- Once you have completed the application online, you will receive a confirmation email containing a list of supporting documents (resume, cover letter, diplomas ...) which need to be sent to the address indicated in the confirmation email (there may be a short delay before receiving the confirmation email).
What is the deadline for registration?
Applications are to be completed between March and late June. The documents must be provided to us before the final deadline without fail (this includes a letter of motivation explaining your reasons for applying + a proposal for a research project between 3-5 pages, outlining what theme you would you like to work on, conduct research and why).
The first admission committee meets in early July. Another meeting will take place in early September for the applications received after the first committee meeting in July.
How to validate professional experience?
Requests for validation of professional experience are made at the same time as applications for admission. Any candidate who does not have a degree (a minimum Diploma is normally required) can apply to the Masters in Ethics by first making a VAP application (Validation of Professional Experience) directly to the Continuing Education department addressed to Ms . Elisa Debailly firstname.lastname@example.org (Tel: (+33) 03 68 85 49 94).
The candidate, like any other Masters applicant, must simultaneously complete the application online and provide the required documents (as stated above) to be examined by the educational committee.
How much does the Masters program cost?
There are no additional educational costs; only the administrative fee will be charged. Registration fees are 261.10 euros per year for the two year Masters program.
If you are already enrolled in another course (law, sociology..), the registration fees for the second program are only 168.00 euros. *
* To be eligible for this reduction, you must be registered for 2 courses on UDS.
Can I enter directly into the second year of the Masters in Ethics?
Although it is possible to enter the second year of the Masters in Ethics, this is quite rare. The first year provides for basic training, which we we have found essential for students to fully benefit from the course. However, if you have already validated one or another module or course in any way, this needs to be signaled to us; your eventual academic advisor will be able to excuse you from classes at the beginning of the year. This will somewhat lighten your workload during your first year.
Is it possible to validate part of this Masters in Ethics abroad ?
We encourage student mobility! (This is done so via Eucor, agreements between universities ...) Therefore it is not only possible but also highly desirable to complete part of this Masters at a foreign university (whether it be courses and / or internships).
The EUCOR program: The seven Upper Rhine Universities, located between the Black Forest, the Jura and the Vosges, came together in 1989 as a trans-frontier association named the European Confederation of Upper Rhine Universities (EUCOR). The purpose of the Confederation is to promote cooperation in all areas of teaching and research by encouraging exchanges of teachers and students, initiating joint research programs, promoting education and a common cross-border mutual recognition of learning. For more information, visit the International section> Eucor
Number of hours and the Masters schedule
What is the volume of the Masters schedule?
It consists on average of 180 hours per semester and a minimum of 4 semesters.
Can I validate the Ethics Master over several years?
It is possible to validate the UE modules one after the other. In other words, a person can spread their Masters over several years (for the regular Masters, each year of the Masters must be validated within two years, unless there are exceptional circumstances. There is greater flexibility in the context of continuing education) . Once a UE module is completed, it is validated definitively, including from another university, French or foreign. That's the whole point of the Bologna reform ,which came into force in September 2005 in Strasbourg. This reform allows for great flexibility!
Are courses available via distance learning?
Modules UE1, UE2 and UE 3 of the first semester of a master are made available in continuing professional education (interdisciplinary Ethics). For the moment we do not, strictly speaking, offer distance learning courses. Some documents are available online and contribute to facilitating studies. The entire Masters is however offered as continuing education on a progressive basis.
How are classes organised during the week?
The bulk of UE 1, UE 2 and UE 3 modules in the first semester of the Masters program take place from Friday morning to Saturday morning. They take place at CEERE. The remaining courses are spread out at different departments and therefore take place throughout the week. However, since there is a choice of courses for a number of UE modules, it is also for students to choose courses as they see fit.
When are the seminars?
The seminars are at different dates depending on selected topics. In general, they do not occur every week, but rather once or twice a month. Finally, again, many seminars are optional and it is for the student to choose those that suit them best.
